HUNTINGTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY

209 Main St.
Huntington NY 11743

The Huntington Historical Society is the focal point for preserving the ongoing heritage of the Town of Huntington. We support this mission through public education programs, maintaining museums, collections and a regional research center; promoting the preservation of historic buildings and sites; and by partnering with local and regional institutions.
The Conklin house, which contains artifacts and is decorated to illustrate three periods of the country's history: Colonial, Federal and Victorian. It was occupied by the Conklin family for over one-hundred and fifty years, you will see the original rooms of the house constructed c. 1750. You will also see the area where Sybel Conklin and her children lived and worked while her husband, David, was held prisoner by the British in 1777. Fee: $5
The Kissam House Museum now standing on this historic site, one of the original home-lots that faced the old Town Green, was built in 1795 by Timothy Jarvis, a housewright. It was first occupied by Dr. Daniel Whitehead Kissam, a physician from Oyster Bay. Considered one of the most outstanding three-quarter plan houses on Long Island, it is noted for its fine architectural details. Fee: $5
The Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Building was the Huntington town library until 1958. After the library moved to its current location at the other end of Main Street, the building was used by various organizations and from 1969 on, was home to the Town Historian. Over a period of time it deteriorated until it was acquired by the Huntington Historical Society in 2000. That was the beginning of an ambitious eight year restoration project which has brought it back to become a focal point for the community. FREE
Hours of Operation: David Conklin Farmhouse: Thursday, Friday, & Sunday 1pm-4pm, call for docent availability; Dr. Daniel Kissam House: By appointment only; Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Building: Tuesday- Thursday 10-4
