Attractions


The Heckscher Museum of Art is located at 2 Prime Ave in the 18.5 acres Heckscher Park in Huntington. Industrialist and philanthropist August Heckscher founded this leading regional museum in 1920. Today, the Museum maintains a Permanent Collection of more than 2,200 works including paintings, sculpture, works on paper, and photography spanning five centuries from the early 16th to present. Walt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Site and Interpretive Center
246 Old Walt Whitman Rd., South Huntington. The home of Walt Whitman, America’s greatest poet, c.1819. Exhibit includes his papers, school master’s desk, recordings of his voice, and more.
